Road Trip!!

Imagine you and 2 friends are taking a road trip across Nebraska. Pack all the essentials (pop, candy, cell phone, and your $600 to pay for a hotel every night), fill the parent's car up with gas and get ready to have the time of your life! Start at your school and map out the route that will give you best gas mileage to visit the 6 towns of your choice and to find out the most interesting information about your home state of Nebraska. You will spend a night in each of the chosen towns and everyone will share a room. The Great Plains have never been this fun!

 

 

The Task

You will learn:

bulletthe populations of the cities visited,
bulletat least one historical fact from each city,
bullethow to keep a journal of your experiences,
bullethow to visit your cities in the shortest amount of driving time,
bullethow to find the temperatures of the cities you visit and what to wear while you visit,
bullethow to find a hotel in each city that is within your budget ($600).

The Process

To accomplish this task, you must:

bulletchoose 2 friends to travel with
bulletpick the 6 cities/towns that you would like to visit from the list: Valentine, Brownville, Harrison, Grand Island, Sidney, Chadron, Alliance, Norfolk, Blair, Gothenburg, Sutherland, North Platte, Ogallala, Oshkosk, Gering, Scottsbluff, Bridgeport, Superior, Red Cloud, and Beatrice.
bulletgo to www.mapquest.com and choose Road Trip, then follow the instructions on the page. Choose round-trip and continue to the next page.
bulletput our school address as your starting location.
bulletput your six cities in as destinations and organize your cities in the order that you want to visit them (remember that you want the shortest route). You can try a few different routes to find the shortest.
bulleton the first page of your journal write the cities in the order that you will visit them, the estimated driving time and the total distance
bulletin your journal make a page for each city in the order that you will visited it. 
bulleteach journal page must include the current weather conditions, a hotel choice, cost, and location, a restaurant to eat at, one place to visit from the destination guide, and at least one historical fact
bulletafter everything is included on your Road Trip, choose "print your trip plan" and print each page from the "Your Route" part of the web page. You do NOT need to include the links from the "Hotels", "Destination Guide", and "Know Before You Go" sections of the page

 

 

Learning Advice

bulletThe best web sites to visit are the sites sponsored by each city/town.
bulletWhen looking for a hotel, restaurant, and a place to visit from the destination guide in each city/town, click the "add hotel/restaurant/place visited to stop on your route" button.

 

 

Conclusion

When your Road Trip is completed and you have finished laundry, you will reflect on all of the interesting things to do and learn in your home state of Nebraska and realize that you REALLY do live in an AWESOME state! Now all you have to do is turn in your printed Road Trip and your journal !

Trip Mileage you have all 6 cities on your map you have a fairly short trip for the cities that you are visiting  you have the shortest possible trip mapped and you tried several different routes    
Final Printing of Trip you didn't print anything you printed the main page of the trip (the map) you printed all of the pages that your teacher needs    
1st page of your Journal you have a first page your first page includes all 6 cities in a random order it includes 6 cities in order, the mileage, and the estimated driving time    
Group Work you showed up for class you wrote down a few things you helped your group choose 6 cities, map the route, and discover new things about your state    
Budget I spent way too much money and we slept in the car for half of the nights! We spent all of our money while we were gone! We budgeted our money so that we could buy our teacher a really cool present for making us take this trip!     

Historical Fact

Everyone already knew all of our interesting facts! Most of the information that we found was new to other members of our class. The information that we found impressed the other students in our class and they want to Road Trip with us next time!     

Overall

I don't know where my assignment is at! I think I finished the assignment!?! I finished it and I think I did an AWESOME job!
