Oobleck

We made Oobleck! Oobleck is a substance from that has the properties of a liquid and a solid. We had lots of fun measuring the correct amounts and putting them into our baggies before we mixed them all up. The recipe to make Oobleck is:

2 Tablespoons and 2 teaspoons of water

AND

4 Tablespoons of corn starch in a zip-lock baggie

You can add 2 or 3 drops of food color if you want to.

Kneed the bag and make sure all of the ingredients mixed together.

This is a messy project!

Graphing

We have made so many graphs in Text Box: Smart that we are now EXPERTS! We have used paper, computers, and string to make all different kinds of graphs. Ask your daughter what kinds of graphs she has made. Your daughter has made graphs by herself, with a partner and with everyone else in our group.

Math Stories

We have worked with a partner to make up a story that involves math. We had stories the included princes and princesses, a party with pizza, jewelry, and evil stepsisters. Each of the stories had math related questions at the end of the story that other members of our group had to answer. All of the stories had very creative and included a picture to go with the story. Your daughter did a great job reading her story to the class and asking the questions, along with answering the questions before reading her story.

Multiplication & Rubric Cubes

We have multiplied using rubric cubes to represent the number of items in each group. We used story problems such as: You have 3 boxes. Each box has 2 dolls in it. How many dolls do you have ? These type of problems are helpful for your daughter in daily activities. Many students do not understand how to do word problems and have trouble with this through out their lives. Work with your daughter in these activities to help her in the future.
